Module I: The Neurobiological Understanding of Trauma and Neuro-Somatic Focusing Oriented Trauma Practice

*Special fee only for who studied Wholebody Focusing Introduction or Use of Somatic Psychotherapy to work with highly activated clients or other training courses on Focusing, Neuro-somatic based treatment approach. (Supporting document is required)

   

Aim:

This training module aims to the reduction of acute, destabilizing emotions and symptoms; and to increase client’s general capacity to regulate emotional states and self-integration.

 

Objectives: 

  1. To understand the neurobiological perspective of trauma and its impact.

  2. Basic understanding on the Polyvagal Theory and its implications on the mind body & clinical practice.

  3. Learning Wholebody Focusing and the felt sense.

  4. Learning the Integrative Neuro-Somatic Wholebody Focusing Oriented Approach & skills to enhance stabilization, emotional regulation and mind body integration.

 

Content Outline:

  1. Nature and types of trauma and its impact on the brain-body and well-being.

  2. The understanding of trauma from neurobiological perspective and polyvagal theory and its implications on trauma treatment.

  3. The learning of concepts, attitudes and six Steps of Wholebody Focusing (WBF)Therapy.                                                       

  4. Learning to integrate Neuro-Somatic and Wholebody Focusing Oriented skills to meet with Life Stoppages/Trauma causing activation, defensiveness, avoidance, anxiety, or any other unprocessed emotions and stored tensions in the body.

  5. Learning the general process of integrative Neuro-Somatic Wholebody Focusing Oriented experiential approach on trauma healing, aiming at releasing the stored tension, enhancing  resilience and transformational change.               

  6. Self-care and building the authentic and coherence self as a therapist.

Course Structure & Requirement:

  • 4 lecture and practice days

  • Participants shall practice around 2 month of WBF in pairs, once a week for half an hour each as Focuser and Listener (in pair practice, online or in person).

 

Suitable Participants:

This training is suitable for participants who provide clinical work to individuals, couples and parents.

Requirement for Proficiency in Focusing Partnership (PFP) Award:

To be awarded as PFP from International Focusing Institute, participants must have to complete Module I,Module II & III as well as the practicum requirement on Wholebody Focusing (WBF) pair up practice.  Recommendation for PFP is based on skills assessment by the Trainer.
