Sex Counseling in Marriage

Introduction: 

In terms of couple intimacy, sex is an experience of physical, psychological, relational and spiritual connection with spouse. For handling of couple relationship problem, helping professional do not need to talk about sex in each marital case, but we should be ready and confident on tackling sexual incompatibility that will cause marital distress.

This program is aimed at facilitating the helping professionals to acquire a basic understanding with capacity to handle common sex-related in marital relationship. After the completion of this program, participants will be able to:

-    Develop capacity with sensitivity in recognizing the importance and significance of sexuality of an individual in marital context;
-    Acquire proper knowledge, language and path on working with sex-related issue;
-    Deliver basic therapeutic assessment and intervention to couple with sexual incompatibility.

1.    Challenge to marriage, sex and intimacy in contemporary decade
       -    Boundary Confusion on Body, Passion, Sex and Intimacy
2.    Understanding and differentiation of inappropriate sexual behavior
       -    Sexual Incompatibility, Sexual Preference and Sexual Problem
3.    Concerns of sexual problem in marital counseling
       -    From me to we: From Sexual Desire, Sexual Behavior to Sexual Relation
4.    Assessment and Intervention with PLISSIT Model and Lens of Sexuality

-    Case sharing and discussion
-    Simulated practice of counseling session

Target:    Social Workers, Counselors, Clinical Psychologists and other helping professionals

Certificate︰ Participants with 80% or above attendance would be granted certificates

Mr. Koo has been working in Caritas Family Service for over 30 years. From frontline worker to Senior Social Work Supervisor, he has extensive clinical experience in marital issues, sex-related issues and childhood trauma. He is also a Certified Sex Therapist providing sex therapy for nearly 20 years. He is currently a part-time Clinical Supervisor rendering clinical support and professional training to the family social workers in Caritas Family Service. 


Mr. Koo has rich experience on providing training workshop to different NGOs both in Hong Kong and Macau. He has been invited to render training workshops on Marital Counseling, Childhood Trauma, Emotional Work, Sex Counseling in Marriage and Compulsive Sexual Behavior. He is also an active sex therapy trainer assisting the program for training certified sex therapists in Hong Kong.


Mr. Koo is also a columnist in ETNet. The focus of his weekly articles is on sex and intimacy with the aim of enhancing public concern on the issue of sex, love and marriage. He was the author of the book ‘性不只是兩腿間的事’ for sharing of his practice experience in counseling.

Tony Cheng is a senior social worker who has provided case counseling services at Caritas Family Services since 2002. His main service targets include men, courtship and couples.

 

Currently, Mr. Cheng works for "Caritas Family Service – Intimacy Channel" as the team leader. His work includes providing sexual counseling to couples, organizing workshops for premarital couples, and providing professional training to social workers.
